The Los Angeles Press Club is proud to announce our honorees for the 64th SoCal Journalism Awards Gala at the Sheraton Universal Hotel on Saturday, June 25. The Awards gala is dedicated to all brave Ukrainian journalists and independent Russian journalists.
Bill Whitaker, correspondent for 60 Minutes, CBS, will receive the Joseph M Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement. Whitaker, who has spent 40 years with CBS, will be introduced by Rita Moreno. Full bio here.
Christine Devine, news anchor at Fox11, will accept the President’s Award for Impact on Media. Devine is the long-time news anchor on Fox 11 News and has won 16 Emmys. She’s on Fox 11 at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. news and is best known for her Wednesday’s Child foster care segment resulting in more than 500 children being adopted. Full bio here.
Marcus Yam, Los Angeles Times’ Pulitzer Prize-winning foreign correspondent and staff photographer, will be honored with the Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism. His goal is to take viewers to the frontlines of conflict, struggle and intimacy. His approach is deeply rooted in curiosity and persistence. Full bio here.
Susan E. Seager, a veteran First Amendment lawyer and law professor at UC Irvine School of Law, will receive the Guardian Award for First Amendment Contributions. She and her clinic students provide free legal work for independent journalists and non-profit news organizations at the law school’s Press Freedom clinic. Full bio here.
The SoCal Gala is a fundraiser for this 501c3 charitable organization and makes it possible for us to fund educational programming, a mentorship program for young journalists from under-served communities, scholarships and grants.
